Visiting the Powerhouse Discovery Centre at Castle Hill is a totally different way to experience the Powerhouse Museum. About 50,000 diverse objects are kept in this state-of-the-art storage, collection and preservation facility. For years this treasure trove was off limits to the public but now you can go behind the scenes of Australia’s largest and most diverse museum collection. Maggie Habgood and Sandra Dyer are volunteers at the Powerhouse Discovery Centre, who are involved in various activities such as site and storage tours, monthly open days, school holiday programs and the AIDS Memorial Quilt project. This talk is an initiative of the Friends of the SMSA. It is a special event which will be held under the Dictionary of Sydney/Talkabout theme but presented in collaboration with external partners. Thanks to John Robinson for his assistance in organising this event. |
