The Thais have made a lasting impression on the Sydney landscape, in particular through their delicious food. But their migration to Australian has only been quite recent. This talk will explore the history of Thai migration to Australia and how the Thai community have adapted to Australian society while maintaining their own cultural traditions. Zoe Pollock is currently Executive Officer of the History Council of NSW and a member of the Executive Committee of the Professional Historians Association NSW. She also works freelance as an historian. In 2005, Zoe curated an exhibition titled Pai Nai Ma: Thai Australian Experiences, a partnership between the Parramatta Heritage & Visitor Information Centre and the NSW Migration Heritage Centre. She also lived in Northeast Thailand in 2006 as part of the Australian Youth Ambassador for Development program. |
