October Conversations: Good Food Month Some scientists estimate that nearly all current fisheries could disappear in our lifetimes due to overfishing and destructive fishing methods. Global fishing catches have been in decline and many stocks have collapsed completely. There are estimates that 90 per cent of all big fish in the ocean have vanished, and the future of the hundreds of millions of people who depend on fish for their protein is in the balance. According to the Australian Marine Conservation Society, in 2005 the global fishing fleet was 2.5 times larger than what our oceans could sustainably produce. Join us for a discussion on turning the tide on overfishing and how to make sustainable seafood choices. Speaker: Duncan Leadbitter, Regional Director, Asia Pacific Region, Marine Stewardship Council
