THE OBAMA PRESIDENCY ONE YEAR ON: SUBSTANCE OR STYLE?
Dr Helen Pringle
TUESDAY 16 FEBRUARY 12:30-1.30PM
During the presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton criticised her opponent Barack Obama for being "all hat and no cattle". Many commentators one year on repeat the same criticism of President Obama as lacking in substance. In the second Talkabout for 2010, Helen Pringle assesses the record of Obama's first year as president, and provides an overview of his specific successes and failures. However, she also focuses on the question of presidential style: her argument being that the Obama style of leadership is distinctive but because unprecedented, is often misrepresented.
