About the library
The Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts operates the oldest lending library in Australia. With over 30,000 books, plus local and international newspapers and magazines the SMSA Library, it is the perfect place to spend a quiet lunch hour or pay a visit after work. The Library specialises in popular fiction and has one of the best mystery collections around.
Unlike other libraries, the SMSA Library has generous borrowing periods - 8 weeks for most items - and there are no charges for reserving or requesting books.

The Library is only open to SMSA Members, however new Members are always welcome. Join online today or contact the Library for a Membership Application Form.

Effective Saturday, 15 May 2010, the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts Library will be open on Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Anyone is welcome to view the library catalogue online however you will need to join the SMSA to enter the Members' area or to borrow books.
